Hello and Welcome! My focus is in treating graduate students. I strive to create a safe, collaborative environment for the exploration of self and relationships, stress management strategies, multicultural issues, adjustment to the university environment, as well as the healing of past traumas and family of origin struggles. I have been in university counseling since 2004. I use a combination of psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral techniques, Internal Family Systems approaches, as well as mind-body stress reduction.
Welcome! I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and psychotherapist. One of my areas of emphasis is counseling undergraduate and graduate students who are navigating the complexities of college life and balancing the demands that often accompany this time. It is common for these years to bring discovery and connection as well as stress, pressure and anxiety. In collaboration, we can work through what is challenging or making you feel stuck or avoidant. We can address mental health concerns that may be disrupting your path. We will look at your day-to-day functioning as well as the bigger picture of your life. I will support you in taking meaningful steps towards your goals. I have extensive specialized experience treating OCD, generalized anxiety, panic disorder, and BFRBs. While in training, I also completed an internship at a college counseling center where I had the wonderful opportunity to counsel students entering healthcare professions. It can be helpful for potential clients to know ahead of time that I am "in- network" with Boston University Aetna Student Health specifically. If you have this insurance, your visits are covered and you are only responsible for your copay. In all other cases, I am "out-of network." I am happy to offer a superbill invoice you can submit to your insurance for partial or full reimbursement, if you have out-of-network benefits and are eligible for reimbursement. If you aren't sure whether you do, you can call the phone number on your insurance card to ask. I am licensed in MA and CT. I look forward to getting to know you!

I offer convenient virtual appointments in the evenings on weekdays and midday to afternoon on weekends. You can reach out through email, my website, or by phone to get started.

Hi, thanks so much for taking an interest in my practice. It takes great courage and awareness to come to the decision to reach out for support. I see clients in my office in Cambridge, MA, near Davis Square, and in Melrose, MA, as well as by teletherapy/videochat. I specialize in helping people to free themselves from the 'silent conversation' that we have with ourselves throughout the day. By understanding how this conversation influences our thoughts, feelings, and actions, it is possible to adapt it to feel more empowered in life. It is my hope that your therapy experience will feel comforting, meaningful, real, and effective in getting to the heart of your core concerns. I work from an integrative framework in a warm and interactive environment, drawing from holistic, cognitive, and psychodynamic influences to help people to reclaim a sense of choice and authorship in their lives. My background includes more than 25 years in clinical healthcare, school, and community settings working therapeutically with individuals, couples, and groups on a wide-range of issues causing acute and chronic distress. College is supposed to be exciting, but for a lot of students, it feels more like walking a tightrope: juggling coursework, relationships, pressure to figure out your future and fears of failing. If that sounds familiar, you're not alone and you're not broken. I'm MJ Wright, a licensed therapist with specialized training in anxiety and the unique pressures that come with being a student. I work with teens and young adults who find that their anxiety is getting in the way of the life they want to be living. Maybe you've noticed it showing up as procrastination, perfectionism or the inability to start an assignment even when the deadline is looming. Maybe it's lying awake at 2am replaying a conversation or catastrophizing about your GPA. Maybe you just feel chronically overwhelmed and aren't sure why. Therapy with me is a space where you don't have to perform or have it together. We'll work at a pace that feels right for you, using approaches that are grounded in evidence and tailored to what's actually going on in your life. I believe that anxiety is often a signal worth listening to, not just a symptom to eliminate. Together, we'll figure out what it's telling you and help you build a relationship with yourself that's a little less exhausting.
I invite couples, adolescents and adults to identify strengths, acknowledge challenges and develop strategies to solve a range of problems. We can explore ways to save and enhance your relationship. In the first session, I teach tools that you can use immediately to enhance your partnership, open the lines of communication and reconnect as a couple. If you are an overwhelmed parent, I can help you reach out to your teen by employing techniques that can be used in the moment. My professional experience encompasses coping with anxiety, managing chronic illness, grieving losses and achieving balance for an enriched life. My therapeutic approach is client-centered, reality-based and solution- focused. I also provide psychodynamic insight-oriented therapy if a more in depth exploration of issues is requested. My experience and training include relationship issues, crises related to life transitions, developmental stages, adolescent concerns, couples issues, PTSD, chronic illness, and loss. I am in a small group practice at Solutions for Living. We work within a relationship based model that emphasizes strengths, supports self care planning, encourages mindfulness and incorporates stress reduction. We also remain well informed with regard to evidence based techniques, proven theories and research.
