Therapists for college students near Northeastern University
**Currently accepting clients for Summer 2024 as of May 2024!** I work with students on all major non-emergent concerns, but I am particularly passionate about concerns around identity development. This is a broad area and includes working through gender or sexuality, what you want to "do" with your life in terms of career or relationships, how you might change patterns you see in your life to be more in alignment with the person you'd like to be, and more. I work with neurodivergent students to better set up their lives to meet their needs. Students might come in to discuss depression, anxiety, drug or alcohol use, or relationships with friends, family, or intimate partners. My goal is always to create a creative and safe environment for you to come closer to achieving what you have set out for yourself. My approach is collaborative and client-centered. I aim to be affirming of all races, sexes and genders, body sizes, religions, and more, with the understanding that I cannot be an expert in lived experiences that are not my own. I offer a free 15 minute consultation call to see if we are a good match for each other. Reach out and we can talk to see if we will be a good fit.
Hello! I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Massachusetts with extensive experience treating adults, children, and adolescents dealing with and healing from trauma, among other mental health and life difficulties. I have worked in various treatment settings, both clinical and educational, to assist clients and patients with social-emotional goals, and I bring this varied background and experience to my private practice. My practice serves young adults and adults (17+), and I specialize in the treatment of trauma, depression, and anxiety. I am accepting clients for in-person and telehealth sessions.
I offer IFS and EMDR therapy to empathetic, high-achieving women who struggle with self-doubt, people-pleasing, emotionally immature relationships, and cycles of trauma. My clients often find me when they can no longer manage the burden alone. They feel stuck in hurtful relationships, they lack trust in themselves, and they feel shame even when they know it’s not their fault. You deserve peace. My goal is to help you feel deeply connected to your values and intuition so you can break free from the cycles you’ve been stuck in and thrive as the most authentic version of yourself.

September 2025 update: I have very limited availability for in-person sessions, but a little more availability for online sessions. I'll help you to become aware of your painful feelings and to learn to tolerate them, so that you're free to make choices instead of just reacting to life. I am a licensed, independent social worker. I have worked my way up to the management level of an agency, but interacting directly with clients is what I enjoy most. I have experience working with clients who have many different types of concerns, such as eating disorders, anxiety, depression, addiction, and interpersonal problems. I tailor my treatment approaches to the needs and wants of my clients. (If you have some knowledge of treatment approaches, these approaches include psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and motivational interviewing approaches). Besides my Master's in Social Work, I also have a PhD in English, so I am particularly interested in helping clients to use their reading or writing as therapy.

Skills I employ to support clients are mindfulness and meditation; resiliency/strengths-based approaches, DBT Skills building, Person Centered Approaches, ACT and Dance/Movement Therapy. I approach my work through a feminist centered lens and support individuals in developing strategies to think critically about their behavior patterns. We live in a high-paced world, pulling us in all directions, leading us to feel burnt out and disconnected from other people. You might have become tired of the nagging stress, the strong emotions, the complexity of navigating relationships, or the feeling that something is holding you back from reaching your full potential. Despite all of this, a part of you wants to feel better and move forward. After all, that is why you are taking this major step of seeking help at this moment in your life. In my practice, I construct a safe therapeutic space where you can slow down and breathe. I believe there is no one-size-fits-all formula to address your unique history, personality, and concerns. Therefore, I take a holistic and integrative approach. I consider your difficulties, strengths, where you came from, where you are now, and where you want to be. By working together with clients, I help them cultivate emotional intelligence, deepen honest self-reflection, and increase their motivation to change. Most of my clients aim to reduce stress, improve human connection, and live more meaningful lives. If you are ready to start your journey towards wellness, email me to set up a free no-obligation brief consultation.
Often, a significant source of suffering lies in thoughts and feelings that exist outside of our awareness and have not yet been able to find full expression. Psychotherapy offers the unusual opportunity to be listened to deeply and to learn to listen to ourselves in new ways. Exploring and developing insight into your inner life can lead to change—feeling better about yourself, shifting seemingly intractable patterns that have kept you stuck, and developing a greater sense of agency and fulfillment in your life. My practice provides a safe setting in which this exploration can unfold. I'll work collaboratively with you to help you make sense of distressing feelings and thoughts, gain insight into your experiences, and develop a more authentic relationship to yourself and to the world. I have advanced training in psychodynamic psychotherapy, and my work is influenced by psychoanalytic and trauma-informed approaches. I see adults and specialize in a range of issues, including anxiety, depression, complex trauma, and relationship difficulties. Therapy can be a wonderful way to deepen your understanding of the ways in which you view yourself and your experiences. Having a meaningful life with purpose and promise is something we all strive for. As your therapist I will support you in developing goals and strategies that help you attain the things you want and form a more compassionate, loving view of yourself. I utilize a collaborative approach that is individually tailored to honor the complexity that each person brings to the counseling relationship. We will work to examine core beliefs you have about yourself and how these affect your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Additionally I have seen the benefits in utilizing mindfulness based therapeutic approaches to help develop awareness and acceptance of our life circumstances. Setbacks happen. When they do, how do you use this information? We choose to view adverse experience as a way to help us move forward more positively or as confirmation that things never seem to work out for us. This is an example of a perceptual shift we might work on. Everything that happens within the counseling relationship is on your terms as the Client. I will always honor your wisdom and help you tap into a decision making process that aligns with your core values. Please contact me for a free consultation to discuss your mental health needs and to determine if we are a good fit. During these stressful and uncertain times, therapy can be a much needed support. I treat individuals 18 and up.
You keep wondering if you are repeating the same pattern again and again; it feels inevitable and totally out of your control and yet you can't stop blaming yourself. I commend you for holding on to hope, for reaching out. It requires courage and inner strength to look for someone who is trained to listen and help. I have training and experience helping those who struggle with depression, anxiety, memories of trauma, career and relationship difficulties.

Dr. Hu is a Duke-trained adult and child psychiatrist with expertise in anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). She worked in prestigious institutions, including McLean Hospital OCD institute, Tufts Medical Center ECT (electro-convulsive therapy) program, and anxiety clinic at Boston University. before joining Harvard Counseling and Mental Health Services (CAMHS) in 2021. I believe that all therapy starts by building a detailed understanding of each person in the context of a developing therapeutic relationship. I will work with you collaboratively to develop a plan for your success based on your specific goals. Often, this plan includes enhancing knowledge, increasing self-awareness, and learning new skills. I offer an integration of therapeutic approaches, including relational (focusing on interpersonal interactions), mindfulness (emphasizing awareness and attention to one's experience), and cognitive-behavioral techniques (focusing on the impact of thoughts, emotions, and behaviors). I work to help individuals managing anxiety, depression, life transitions, and relational stressors. In addition, I have specialized training & experience in helping people heal from trauma. I have training and experience working with couples looking to improve connection and overcome difficulties in healthier manners.
I am a board certified psychiatrist who provides psychotherapy and medication management for children, adolescents and adults. In my clinical and academic work, I have specialized experience in areas related to race, gender, immigration, acculturative stress, and schools. My approach is grounded in working collaboratively with the individual, family, larger systems and social contexts to identify, understand and tailor treatment to best address problems. While addressing the biological, psychological, cultural and social factors that contribute to the areas of concern, I tend to identify and underscore one’s strengths and positive coping skills. I believe that the best outcomes are achieved through a highly collaborative, supportive and compassionate working relationship between patients and physician.
As an Attachment based EMDR Certified Therapist I work well with high achieving young adults who feel unsatisfied in their relationships and struggle with health challenges.
Fit is essential to good therapy. When the fit is right, therapy can become a practice space for navigating the complexity of relationships in everyday life. I value an open and collaborative approach so that together we can understand the challenges you face; those that are both in and outside of your conscious awareness. Whether you are struggling with depression, anxiety, questions of identity, work difficulties, relationship conflict, going through a life change, or dealing with family-related stress, I believe that together we can understand and address that which holds you back. The following clinicians work in my practice and are also listed with Thriving Campus: Joel Stanley, Mental Health Counselor, and Dr. Shirley Poyau. I specialize in the treatment of complex trauma, a condition resulting from early and repeated exposure to neglect and abuse on the part of caregivers. I strive to create a space with clients where safety, in the context of a therapeutic relationship, can be experienced in order to promote recovery. I bring an awareness of the body and its various forms of communication into treatment, while also listening for layered meanings contained in the spoken word. I integrate psychodynamic principles and body-based approaches into my work. Social justice, equity, and cultural issues also significantly guide my clinical approach.
