Therapists for college students near Portland, OR
Jessica Bowes
Hi there! My vision of successful therapy is that you feel at home in yourself and maintain that center as you engage with the world around you. You will experience more ease, compassion, connection, balance, expansiveness, and a clarity about who you are and where you stand in relation to the experiences that brought you to therapy to begin with. Your issues may include not feeling like yourself, feeling stuck, grieving a loss, feeling flat, numb, or disconnected, sensing that something is missing or off, struggling with identity or life transitions, being in need of support in parenting, or just sensing that this is important somehow. Our work will bring you back to your center, wholeness, and new possibilities by providing corrective and missing experiences, acceptance, and connection through mindful, experiential, supportive and body-based therapies. The relationship between a therapist and client is the foundation of transformation and I invite inquiries to see if we could be a good fit for one another.

Narrowing the Gap Therapy
I'm a bilingual, bicultural, working-class immigrant and white cisgender woman who grew up in three distinct countries. My lived experience shapes my belief that culture is vital for understanding both myself and my clients. Having navigated cultural transitions, I deeply empathize with the challenges faced by immigrants and those balancing multiple cultural and racial identities. I welcome clients from all backgrounds, providing inclusive and affirming care. My practice integrates multicultural competence, mindfulness, Polyvagal, and attachment theories through a social justice lens. Therapy with me is deeply relational and built on mutual respect, cultural humility, and a shared dedication to your healing journey. I aim to recognize your strengths while planting new awareness, trusting in your inner guidance to integrate insights toward growth. Living in a world filled with poverty, marginalization, oppression, and pandemic(s) can feel daunting and lead people to feel as though they have little agency. Therapy can be a helpful place to explore the places in our lives where we do have agency, where we are able to make tangible changes-often times this is in our interpersonal relationships. I work from an attachment focused and relational cultural perspective that is grounded in feminist practice which prioritizes the exploration of identities, oppression, intersectionality, and their impact on social and emotional functioning. I draw upon interventions from psychoanalytic psychotherapy, attachment focused therapy, emotionally focused therapy, radical acceptance, and health at every size. I have experience working with people struggling with issues related to depression, anxiety, life transitions, gender identity, queer issues, and relationship and family challenges. I take a non-pathologizing approach to working my clients, with a particular focus on those have been marginalized by the mental health profession in the past.

My clients struggle like you do. Despite being intelligent, kind, and creative, life is hard. When we first begin therapy, my clients feel like their relationships are lacking. They’re having issues with family, friends, and partners. They wonder why they keep having the same experiences in relationships, and what they can do about it. They wish they knew why things keep playing out in the same way. They feel like they’re not good enough, and that it’s their fault. All too often, they blame themselves for the struggles that they’re experiencing. Their self-criticism and relationship challenges get in the way of the life they want in so many ways. They feel like they’re failing at being an adult, and their confidence at work or school is suffering. Before they came to see me, my clients weren’t sure if they were ready for therapy. They worried that they might not feel safe opening up. They were pretty certain that they couldn’t be helped, but keeping it all inside was feeling like too much to bear. Like my clients, you deserve to feel good about yourself and your relationships.
Principle Mind
All inquires should go through our website. www.Principlemind.com The goal at Principle Mind is to get you better. Principle Mind is about the integration of medication with goal-specific therapy. Our approach is to identify the core underpinnings of mental distress. We aim to meet individuals where they are, while at the same time working as hard as you are. While diagnosis and evidence-based medicine do guide our treatment, we treat the person in front of us and their symptoms, as every diagnosis may present differently, and be caused by different sources. If you are motivated, open-minded, and wanting to be more than a spectator in your life, we can work together to obtain wellness and actually get you better. By focusing on core emotional identification and using interpersonal dynamic interactions, we can discover a path to better connection personally, professionally and socially.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist and a licensed school psychologist. I hold a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Long Island University in Brooklyn, NY. Urban and rural, inpatient and outpatient work settings have taught me about the many challenges an individual may face including experiences of oppression and injustice, as well as a deep appreciation for the richness of the human experience. My style is described as warm, analytical and collaborative, balancing deep emotional work with elements of humor and lightness when appropriate. I aim to help clients address the root of complex challenges, in a safe and supported way. I most enjoy working with anxious kids and families, neurodivergent humans, queer clients, and folks working with depression, trauma, attachment, and identity including DID. I use insight-oriented, mindfulness-based, and systemic approaches including family therapy, Internal Family Systems therapy, and emotion-focused work. I seek to help clients understand patterns that may not be serving them, and to hold a safe and empowering space in which positive shifts can occur. I am a student and teacher of yoga and meditation and I often weave these practices into my work with clients. I currently offer virtual therapy to clients in Oregon, New York, Colorado and Vermont.
