Chi is all about helping you feel more present in your life. With a fusion of cognitive-behavioral therapy, talk therapy, and Eastern philosophies, Chi brings a fresh perspective to help you. Imagine feeling more present, less stressed, and in tune with your mind, body, and spirit. That's Chi's mission – to empower you to thrive holistically. Whether you're dealing with stress, anxiety, depression or just need someone to talk to, Chi is your ally, dedicated to co-creating positive changes that resonate with you. A typical session begins with a brief check-in; we then proceed to engage in mindfulness or somatic-centered exercises designed to enhance coping skills. Toward the end of the session, we integrate these skills, empowering you to overcome distress and feel more present in your daily life. My journey started unexpectedly one day by chance or fate when I stumbled upon a book on Eastern philosophy and mindfulness while browsing through a thrift store. It was a serendipitous moment that introduced me to mindfulness and its potential to improve well-being. Intrigued by what I read, I found myself drawn into the practice of mindfulness. This newfound passion eventually inspired me to pursue a master's degree in counseling, setting me on the path I'm on today. I strive to create an open and safe environment for collaboration and exploration with my clients. My approach is anti-oppressive and I celebrate each individual's expression of identity and cultural differences.

Wherever you may be at in your journey, I look forward to joining you on your path towards greater mental and emotional well-being. I create a safe, nonjudgmental space to explore your thoughts and feelings, and prioritize understanding things from your viewpoint. My main goal is to empower you as we collaborate to examine the impact of your experiences and stressors from new perspectives, to help you heal, and grow. I work with adults to address issues related to chronic pain, substance use, relationship difficulties, anxiety, and depression. I tailor my therapeutic interventions to meet your specific needs, taking a holistic approach to promote self-awareness, as you acquire new skills and refine coping strategies. Each session is an opportunity to gain clarity and acceptance, as you continue to learn how to be with yourself in the present moment. I welcome getting to know you and your story, recognizing the courage it takes to choose what may be more difficult in the near term, and more helpful in the long run.

We will explore a variety of therapeutic techniques together and I am committed to helping you discover what works best for you. My therapeutic style is collaborative and strength-based. I draw upon a myriad of clinical interventions including cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based stress reduction, self-compassion research, as well as various yogic and meditative practices. Together we will identify interventions and tools that best serve your unique treatment goals. I firmly believe that healing is possible within the therapeutic relationship and have witnessed clients develop the skills to move through life's challenges with greater ease. I have an extensive clinical history working with people in a variety of settings with a large array of presenting issues, ranging from mood/thought disorders, developmental delays, trauma, family conflict, addictions, life-transitions, stress-related issues, and many other simple and complex problems. As a result, I have a level of comfort in working with a wide range of people with a wide range of issues from a wide range of backgrounds. I am a culturally sensitive trauma-informed clinician chiefly concerned with ensuring that you feel seen, heard, and safe in our relationship. However, most importantly, I will work to gain mutual clarity about how you can begin to shift the notions of our who your "self" is and how it can attain increasing amounts of peace in your life.

Clinical Social Work/Therapist
Boston, MA

Welcome! I’m Lauren Cohen, a licensed independent clinical social worker, and I’m so glad you’re here. A bit about me: I’m a Los Angeles native, and a White, Jewish, cis-gendered (she/her) clinician. I am open about these parts of my identity when we work together - and strive to create a space where all of your parts always feel seen and welcome. I’ve always been fascinated by emotions, relationships, and behavior. My love for learning about different people has taken me to over 25 countries. Traveling has given me a profound understanding of human nature, “sameness”, and also the vast complexities of different cultures. Outside of sessions, I love creating pottery, being in nature, a good sunset swim, & trying new foods with my family and friends. I approach therapy with a dynamic and evolving perspective, tailoring my methods to meet your unique needs. Psychodynamic theory, Attachment theory, and Mindfulness are foundational to my work, and I am also a Level 1 trained therapist in Internal Family Systems (IFS). IFS allows us to explore the different “parts” of your identity, by uncovering truths and developing your own inner healer. I believe healing comes from building a trusting relationship between mind and body, and creating space for your authentic self to emerge. Meditation and breathwork are often utilized to connect you with your mind’s eye and core self. My approach to therapy is warm, kind and playful. I have a deeply non-judgmental attitude, providing a space where you can feel safe and supported as we navigate the complexities of your inner world. I also embrace the deeper, darker aspects of self, recognizing that these parts of your experience can hold wisdom and strength - the shadow is always welcome in our work.
